Technology consulting

Advice before you build. From engineers who then build it.

Architecture reviews, technology choices and build plans, written by the engineers who would do the work. You get a decision you can act on, with us or with anyone else.

Is this the right service?
  • Architecture review
  • Stack decisions
  • Build or buy
  • Roadmap and estimate
From a question to a decision
  1. Your question

What to build, what to build it with, or why the current system is struggling.

  2. Our review

We read the code, the plans and the numbers, and talk to the people involved.

  3. A written recommendation

What to do, in what order, what it costs and what we would not do.

The report is yours. Any competent team can act on it.

01 / Is this the one

Is consulting what you need?

Consulting is advice before and around a build. It is not the build, and it is not day-to-day support.

The right choice when

  • You are about to commit a budget and want the plan checked first.
  • You must choose between rebuilding, modernising and buying a product.
  • A system is slow, fragile or expensive and nobody is sure why.

Look elsewhere when

  • You already know what to build. Go straight to an estimate.
  • A live system needs fixes and upkeep. That is a support plan.
  • You want advice on AI specifically. See AI consulting.

02 / What the work covers

What a consulting engagement produces.

Short, agreed in length before it starts, and written down.

  1. 01

    Architecture and code review

How the system is put together, where it will fail under growth and what to fix first.

  2. 02

    Technology choice

Which stack, platform or vendor fits the work, with the trade-offs stated.

  3. 03

    Build, buy or modernise

A comparison of a custom build, a ready-made product and upgrading what you have.

  4. 04

    Risks

What could go wrong, how likely it is and what we would do about each.

  5. 05

    Roadmap and estimate

The work in order, sized and priced, so the next step can be approved.

03 / Limits and risks

What advice cannot do.

A report changes nothing by itself

Someone has to act on it. We keep recommendations few and ordered so they can be.

We only see what we are shown

A review is as good as the access behind it. Code, data and the people who know the history all matter.

We also build software

We may be asked to build what we recommend. So the report says when a ready-made product or another route is better.

04 / What we can show

Advice from people who build and run software.

We have no consulting-only case study to show. What stands behind the advice is software we have delivered and products we operate.

What this does not show

A consulting engagement for a named client. We have not published one, so we claim no results from advice alone.

05 / What to do next

Price it, compare it or talk it through.

The first step is a free call about the decision in front of you. We agree what to review and send a written scope and price.

A little clarity

Before a review begins.

What consulting services does NSDBytes offer?

Architecture and code reviews, technology and vendor choices, build-or-buy comparisons, risk assessments and build roadmaps with estimates. Each ends in a written recommendation.

Can NSDBytes assist in technology strategy planning for my business?

Yes. We look at the systems you run and the plans you have, then set out which technology to keep, replace or add, in what order and at what cost.

Do we have to build with NSDBytes afterwards?

No. The recommendation is written so that any competent team could act on it. If a ready-made product would serve you better than a custom build, the report says so.

Is NSDBytes’ consulting service suitable for small businesses?

Yes. There is no minimum project size. A small business usually needs one clear decision, such as build or buy, and that can be a short review.

How is consulting different from support and maintenance?

Consulting is advice before and around a build: what to build, with what and in what order. Support and maintenance keeps a live system running after it is built. They are separate services, and this page covers only the first.

How much does consulting cost?

It depends on what is reviewed and how much access is needed. The price is agreed after a free scoping call. If you already have a build in mind, the project cost estimator gives a range for it.
